The Great American Revival

What if Kindness, Humility and Genuineness Could Oust Spitefulness, Self-Importance, and Falsehoods? Can Minimalism Reset The American Dream?

The 12th Step Promises, Alcoholics Anonymous:

“If we are painstaking about this new phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are halfway through. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. We will not regret the past nor wish to close the door on it. We will comprehend the word serenity and know peace. No matter how far down the scale we gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others. That feeling of usefulness and self pity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows. Self-seeking will disappear. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us. We will intuitively know how to handle situations that used to baffle us. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do ourselves. Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fulfilled among us- sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. They will always materialize if we work for them.”

It is disheartening to see what America has become. She’ s not even recognizable compared to just few short decades ago. The euphoric recall of what America was like in the late 1980’s and and 1990’s is no longer. Our country’s self-esteem has evaporated right in front of eyes. Ever since the unforgettable Election Year 2016, and the subsequent COVID-19 Pandemic, America’s wide spread deterioration has spiraled. Our lifestyles, what is important to most of us, our yearly accumulations, professional occupations, and moral compasses need change. A new design for living per se.

As the AA 12th Promises tell us, ‘Our whole attitude and outlook on life will change.’ I’d like to think America is capable of entering an ‘Age of Recovery.’ Like alcoholism and addiction, one needs to hit a bottom of sort before revolutionary change occurs.

  1. What could spearhead A Great American Revival?

2. What exactly would A Great American Revival look like?

3. Could A Great American Revival chip away at well established American ideology?

4. Is the the current makeup of the American Dream and how we go about achieving it healthy for our emotional well beings and physical selves?

5. How many Americans would be in opposition to A Great American Revival embracing a minimalist approach to life?

6. For those who embrace this new design for life, could they in turn help others resistant towards such epic changes redefining the American Dream (sharing our experience, strength and hope)?
